Thinking versus saying

There’s Always More to it.

Bereavement, grief, and mourning can be deep, uncomfortable, beautiful, truthful, contradictory, morose, celebratory, confusing, enlightening, frightening, funny, tragic, surprising, common — a cornucopia of thoughts and emotions. Trying to tell the people closest to us what it’s really like, even when they ask, we often edit ourselves for their sake, for our own sake, or for the sake of the relationship. But if people could hear the whole truth, they might be more compassionate, more helpful, or otherwise respond in more positive ways.

How can you share your story without worrying about making anyone uncomfortable? Would you like the chance to tell it uninterrupted, unjudged, unpitied, and with complete freedom of expression? Could you be totally open with someone who is interested, understanding, and experienced but who is not a clinician, an advisor, or a member of your personal network?

We invite you to participate in We The Bereaved, an all-audio (no video) interview project intended to gather stories of bereavement, grief, and mourning for sharing via edited topical episodes. Whether you’ve lost your Papa or your parakeet, whether you’ve endured a long ailment or sudden event, whether you are happy, sad, angry, confused and/or at peace about it. Hearing your story might inform a friend or a total stranger how to help or to understand. Academics and grief support professionals can also utilize this information in their work to help us all.

Interviews can be conducted via telephone but in-person conversations are preferred when feasible, at your preferred location. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in an interview.
